How many energy sources are there?
There are two sources of energy: renewable and nonrenewable energy.
The primary sources of energy in the environment include fuels like coal, oil, natural gas, uranium, and biomass.

Hydropower, or hydroelectric power, is one of the oldest and largest sources of renewable energy, which uses the natural flow of moving water to generate electricity. Hydropower currently accounts for 31.5% of total U.S. renewable electricity generation and about 6.3% of total U.S. electricity generation.
Our energy supply comes mainly from fossil fuels, with nuclear power and renewable sources rounding out the mix. These sources originate mostly in our local star, the Sun. Electricity falls into its own category because it's an energy carrier and not a primary source.
